Chelsea Pollard
Chelsea Pollard is an associate in the dispute resolution practice, focusing on international arbitration, cross-border litigation, investigations, and dispute avoidance. She has particular knowledge of international arbitration and has been involved in advising and representing clients in various sectors, including construction, energy, hospitality, healthcare, consumer goods, aviation, and finance. Chelsea is qualified to practice in California.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Chelsea worked as an associate at one of the largest regional law firms in the Middle East and at an arbitral institution in Malaysia, where she was part of the standard form of building contracts team. During her time at the arbitral institution, she was involved in drafting arbitration rules, standard forms of building contracts, and standard forms of software development contracts and participated in a number of speaking engagements.
Chelsea is involved in a number of organizations, having been a past co-chair of the American Society of International Law, New Professionals Interest Group social media co-chair of the ABA’s Women in Dispute Resolution section, and a facilitator for the Young ITA Mentoring Program.
- Acted for an employer in two ad hoc arbitrations seated in Bahrain under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules involving disputes arising from the construction of combined cycle power plants, with a total claim amount of approximately $2 billion
- Acted for a distribution arm of a leading consumer goods group in defending against a $25 million claim in a Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) arbitration arising from the cancellation of a distribution agreement in Iraq
- Acted for a main contractor in a DIAC arbitration in relation to its claims against a real estate developer and defended against the counterclaims, totaling $25 million
- Acted for a main contractor in two separate arbitral proceedings in relation to disputes arising from sub-contractors of a defunct project, with a total claim amount of approximately $15 million
- Acted for a hotel owner in an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration arising out of the termination of a hotel management agreement for $20 million
- Acted for a Spanish engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor in an ICC arbitration relating to a claim of value-added tax (VAT) in the sum of approximately $300,000 on awarded sums under a previous arbitration governed by UAE law and seated in London
- Advised an air transport ITC company in a dispute with a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member state over an eVisa project
- Advised a Qatari mining company on the potential termination of the main contractor and potential claims against the main contractor in the sum of $17 million
