Fawzi Mashal
Fawzi Mashal is an associate in the dispute resolution practice, focusing on international arbitration, investor-state dispute settlement, investigations, cross-border litigation, and dispute avoidance. He has particular knowledge of international arbitration, and his experience spans a range of different industries, including energy, real estate, construction, banking and finance, distribution, and technology, media, and telecommunications. Fawzi is a qualified solicitor of England and Wales. He is bilingual in Arabic and English.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Fawzi completed his England and Wales training contract at another large international law firm. While there, Fawzi completed rotations across several practice areas, including the international arbitration and commercial disputes resolution teams.
Having practiced in England and the United Arab Emirates, he has deep familiarity with both civil and common law legal traditions.
Fawzi is a member of the Rising Arbitrators Initiative, where he serves as the head of the secretariat.

- Acting for an oil and gas trading company in a London-seated arbitration administered by the London Court of International Arbitration involving disputes over breaches of a joint venture agreement, with a total claim amount of approximately $50 million
- Acting for a major Saudi Arabian conglomerate in an Osaka-seated arbitration administered by the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA) involving disputes over the cancellation of a distribution agreement, with a total claim amount of approximately $50 million
- Acting for a distribution arm of a leading consumer goods group in a Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC)-seated arbitration administered by Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) involving disputes over the cancellation of a distribution agreement, with a total claim amount of approximately $25 million
- Acting for a major Arabian Gulf energy provider in several Manama-seated United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) arbitrations administered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) involving disputes over the operation of power plants, with a total claim amount of approximately $2 billion
- Acting for a major UAE contractor in a Dubai-seated arbitration administered by Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) involving disputes over the construction of a real estate development, with a total claim amount of approximately $25 million
- Acting for major UAE developer in a Dubai-seated arbitration administered by Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) involving disputes brought by sub-contractors of a defunct real estate development, with a total claim amount of approximately $15 million
- Acted for a Spanish EPC contractor in a London-seated arbitration administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) involving disputes over a claim of value-added tax (VAT) in the sum of approximately $300,000 on awarded sums under a previous arbitration
- Secured a settlement for a Spanish construction group as claimant in a $120 million ICC proceeding regarding a dispute over an EPC contract relating to the first private desalination project in the Arabian Gulf

- Acting for an oil and gas trading company in a joint venture dispute before the DIFC courts, with a total claim amount of approximately $50 million
- Acting for a global technology company in a commercial dispute before the Abu Dhabi courts, with a total claim amount of approximately $1 million
- Acted for an international investment company before the Abu Dhabi Courts in defense of a claim of approximately $30 million pertaining to the cancellation of a sale and purchase agreement
- Advising a major builder of power plants, which is a part of a major state-owned entity, in relation to an insurance claim for approximately $10 million
