John S. Battenfeld defends employers in a variety of employment-related cases, with an emphasis on wage and hour class and collective actions. He also represents clients before state and US federal government agencies and in arbitration proceedings. John regularly counsels clients about employment issues under California and federal law. His clients include those in retail, staffing, defense, pharmaceutical, healthcare, technology, and financial services industries.
John represents employers before government agencies that include the California Labor Commissioner, the US Department of Labor, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He counsels clients about alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures and defends cases in ADR forums that include the American Arbitration Association (AAA), JAMS, and private judging.
John has had many successes in wage and hour class and collective actions brought under California law and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), including defeating certification and obtaining summary judgment.
