Joseph P. Benoist focuses his practice on tax controversy matters. Joe represents clients in disputes and litigation with the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, he worked as a senior attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service where he represented the Service on various tax issues in U.S. Tax Court. While with the Office of Chief Counsel, Joe received numerous favorable opinions from the US Tax Court.
Joe graduated cum laude from St. Louis University School of Law, where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the St. Louis University Law Journal. Also, in law school, he served as an extern to U.S. District Court Judge Ronnie White for the Eastern District of Missouri. Among multiple other honors in law school, Joe was selected to serve on the Moot Court Board and received CALI Academic Excellence awards in International Taxation, Tax Policy, and Legal Profession. Joe graduated cum laude from St. Louis University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Economics and Political Science.
