Pranav Mulpur

Pranav Mulpur is an appellate lawyer who helps clients solve legal problems on appeal and throughout the lifecycle of a case. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Pranav clerked for Judge Andrew L. Brasher of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge Douglas R. Cole of the US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and he worked at another global law firm. He is admitted in Massachusetts only, and his practice is supervised by DC Bar members.
Appeals and Motions
- Served as counsel for respondent in US Supreme Court appeal where client sought to sue police officers who brutalized him, and preserved client’s constitutional claims through procedural arguments relied on by footnote 4 of the court’s opinion and Justice Sotomayor’s concurrence
- While counsel for amicus curiae in US Supreme Court appeal concerning affirmative action in college admissions, advocated for views of nonprofit client by raising caselaw later cited in Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurrence
- Secured victory on appeal and cross-appeal for employer in New York’s First Department, where employee sought partnership interest and damages from client, narrowing client’s potential liability from roughly $50 million to under $100,000
- Secured victory on motion to quash for airplane manufacturer in Illinois securities fraud case where investors claimed financial losses after airplane crashes, successfully preventing costly depositions of former board director and general counsel

- Advised US executive department seeking to create numerous novel public-private partnerships on complex questions regarding presidential powers, statutory authorities, and administrative and constitutional law to facilitate transactions worth billions of dollars
- Advised national civil rights nonprofit seeking to bring legal challenges against executive-branch officials on unsettled questions involving presidential appointment powers
- Served as counsel for global social media platform seeking advice before rolling out new features for AI tool, identifying intellectual property laws relating to AI image generation that posed multi-million-dollar legal threats to business and proposing solutions for client
- While counsel for automotive supplier seeking to sue major automaker for breach of contract, analyzed arbitration clause and identified opportunities to invalidate, allowing client to bring multi-million-dollar suit
- As counsel for theater company seeking advice on agreements with playwrights, identified gap in attribution agreement and drafted liquidated damages clause to ensure enforcement
