DOL’s ‘Unprecedented,’ Two-Pronged Overtime Rule Adds New HR Wrinkles, HR Dive

Partner Russell Bruch is quoted in HR Dive discussing how employers affected by the US Department of Labor’s final overtime rule will have to decide how to implement increases to the Fair Labor Standard Act’s minimum annual salary threshold, the first of which takes effect in July and the second in January 2025. Along with determining whether to make the changes in two parts or all at once, employers also have to communicate those changes to employees, train managers on timekeeping policy updates, and calculate overtime premiums.

Given those changes, “it might make sense for some employers to just do it all at once,” Russell said, and comply with the projected 2025 threshold versus implementing two changes over six months. “Each employer is going to have to evaluate that.”
