März 2026Ahead of his speaking engagement at Legalweek 2026, director of eData development and technology George Phillips sat down with Law.com to discuss how firms can take a structured, defensible approach to evaluating generative AI and legacy tools, avoid status quo bias in procurement, and apply a disciplined, risk-based framework to legal tech selection.
George underscored that effective tech evaluation requires both informed end users and rigorous scrutiny of emerging AI tools. “[F]rom my perspective, we have to be able to legally attest to how something is done, and we need to be able to convince our clients that we’ve vetted this technology and we’ve reduced the risk and liability of whatever could happen with their data, which we’re the stewards of,” George said.
When asked what he’d like attendees to take away from his Legalweek session, he said he hopes they remember the “real-world examples” and “scenarios that have happened to the panelists” that he will share. “When you can leave people with a relatable instance it just helps get the message across and teach and hopefully help people out.”
