Energy Breakfast Series: California’s Post-RPS Future

Friday, January 16, 2015
08:30 AM - 10:30 AM Eastern Standard Time

Achieving California's ambitious climate goals will require major changes to the power supply and grid operations — well beyond those recently seen as California grows closer to achieving its 33% Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS). Reliability challenges of an energy supply powered by the vagaries of the sun and the wind are projected to mount as we approach the 33% renewables mark. Electrifying the transportation sector, considered necessary to meet California’s climate goals, would add additional stress to the grid.

California’s RPS has been a great success as a procurement engine, but some suggest it may be too blunt an instrument to achieve a cost-effective, reliable, and decarbonized energy supply. Join us for a conversation on the post-RPS steps California needs to take to achieve its energy and climate goals.
