On March 21, the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (“OCR”) announced the launch of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) Phase 2 audits. Many HIPAA covered entities and business associates are now receiving emails verifying contact information prior to receiving pre-audit questionnaires.
Even if your organization is not selected for a Phase 2 audit, preparing for an audit can help improve HIPAA compliance and security practices and mitigate risks associated with HIPAA investigations and security breaches involving protected health information. This presentation will review how your organization can prepare for a Phase 2 audit and the compliance lessons that can be learned from the audit program.
