In the last year, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) received nearly 200 electric-sector mergers and acquisitions (M&A), reorganizations, and control-change applications, making 2017 one of the busiest recent years for transactions.

FERC’s absence of a quorum resulted in limited rulemaking activity. However, FERC undertook a number of M&A-related enforcement actions during the year, signaling its renewed attention to Section 203 compliance requirements and risks.
