New University Reactors: Projects and Partnerships

Several universities have announced new reactor projects or cooperative engagements to study the feasibility of new on-campus (or near-campus) reactors. The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign announced its micro-reactor demonstration project in collaboration with Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation and is in the process of applying for a license to construct and operate this new reactor on campus. Purdue University and Duke Energy announced the plan to jointly explore the feasibility of using advanced nuclear energy to meet the campus community’s long-term energy needs. Penn State University and Westinghouse Electric Company announced a partnership on research and development efforts, including discussions about siting Westinghouse’s eVinci™ micro-reactor at University Park.

Panelists will share the latest developments in their respective activities and impart insights that may be of interest to the National Organization of Test, Research and Training Reactors community. This panel will meet from 11:15 am–12:00 pm on October 13.
