HIPAA Final Rule: Preparing for New Business Associate Obligations and Liability Risks

June 11, 2013
12:00 PM - 01:00 PM

In January, the Department of Health and Human Services published new regulations that dramatically extended the reach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and imposed significant new legal obligations and potential liability on a wide range of "business associate" companies doing business in the healthcare industry. In light of these changes, companies must take steps to ensure compliance with the regulations prior to the September 23 deadline.

Please join us for a one-hour webinar to discuss the new regulations and the actions companies must be taking now to comply. Topics will include:

  • Developing and implementing a HIPAA security compliance program
  • Understanding new business associate agreement contracting requirements and effectively negotiating those agreements
  • Satisfying a business associate's privacy obligations under the HIPAA final rule
  • Minimizing liability exposure for HIPAA violations committed by subcontractors receiving medical information
