Beware Compliance Complacency, Lawyers Tell Norway Defence Sector, Global Investigations Review

The article highlights how increased defence spending and procurement activity are elevating compliance risks, even in a jurisdiction widely perceived as transparent. Anne cautioned that companies should not rely on Norway’s “high-trust” reputation when assessing risk exposure, noting that structural factors such as close industry relationships and limited competition can heighten the risk of conflicts of interest. “It is a common fallacy to think that one can lessen one’s compliance efforts and controls in Norway just because it is generally a society with high transparency standards,” Anne said.
