In an article published by Lexis Middle East Law Alert, partner Ksenia Andreeva discusses the draft Global AI Hub Law that was recently released by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority. She examines the proposed concept of sovereign or semi-sovereign “AI Hubs” and the three types of hubs, with features determined by the nature of the hosted data and required levels of protection.
“The model suggested in the draft law is an important alternative to traditional data localisation approaches,” writes Ksenia. “Instead of mandating that data remain within its country of origin, which can often be financially and administratively burdensome, it enables companies to store data in Saudi Arabia with sovereign protections intact.”
