LONDON, November 16, 2015: Morgan Lewis has further strengthened its London investment management team with the addition of partner Simon Currie, a leading adviser to financial sector clients on investment funds and financial services regulatory matters. Mr. Currie was previously a member of another global law firm’s private funds and financial services regulatory group.

Mr. Currie’s arrival builds on the recent expansion of the firm’s London team advising clients on investment management and global structured transactions. Together, these lawyers create a formidable Morgan Lewis presence in Europe and the UK, further enhancing the firm’s services to clients across the continent, as well as in the United States, the Middle East, and Asia.

“London is a global center for the investment fund and asset management industry and Simon’s presence underscores our commitment to providing clients with the most sophisticated regulatory and transactional expertise,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Our multi-disciplinary team offers clients the services of a single global firm that understands all aspects of their business, providing unified advice.”

Mr. Currie advises on the structuring, establishment and operation of segregated accounts and segregated account investment vehicles and other investment funds, including UK domestic and offshore investment funds, separate and investment trusts. He also counsels institutional investors regarding investment in private equity and other funds.

Additionally, he represents financial sector clients on the EU and UK regulatory regimes relating to investment business and fund management, including investment fund structuring, and he provides advice regarding the regulatory regime introduced by the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD). Mr. Currie undertakes transactional work within an investment or regulatory context.

“Simon is a leader in advising clients on the management and operation of private equity funds and he has counseled numerous private equity funds on the development of the AIFMD throughout the EU legislative process,” said Louis Singer, leader of the Morgan Lewis investment management practice. “That experience and his background in successfully representing clients before the EU legislative bodies and the UK Treasury on issues of concern to them make him an ideal addition to our London team.”

“I am pleased to welcome such a highly regarded lawyer to our office to complement our existing team and fortify our ability to provide across-the-board service to our financial sector clients,” said London Office Managing Partner Peter Sharp. “This is the latest step in the ongoing growth and development of a range of core client services in our London office.”
