Morgan Lewis Hosts Ceremony Finalizing Philadelphia-Frankfurt "Sister City" Partnership

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

PHILADELPHIA, November 11, 2015: Morgan Lewis will today host Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and a delegation from Frankfurt, Germany, including Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, Deputy Mayor Jan Schneider, and Frankfurt City Council Chairman Stephan Siegler, for the signing and celebration of a recently announced “sister city” partnership between the two cities.

The invitation-only reception will take place in the firm’s Philadelphia office at 1701 Market Street.

In July, Morgan Lewis hosted key representatives from both cities, including both mayors, as well as Consul General Kevin C. Milas, in the firm’s Frankfurt office for a reciprocal ceremony. During the reception, Mayor Nutter provided an overview of Philadelphia’s vibrant business community and economic strengths, and the opportunities from which both cities might benefit as a result of their partnership.

At today’s Philadelphia ceremony, mayors Nutter and Feldmann will address business and government leaders from both cities. The celebration will also feature remarks by Frankfurt Deputy Mayor Schneider and Morgan Lewis’s Frankfurt office managing partner, Dr. Christian Zschocke.

“Morgan Lewis is delighted to again host this unique celebration formalizing the long-standing relationship between Frankfurt and Philadelphia,” said Tim Levin, managing partner of Morgan Lewis’s Philadelphia office.  “We work collaboratively with our clients and, as an integrated global law firm, between our offices internationally—which appropriately coincides with the idea behind the sister cities agreement.”

“Today’s global business environment demands international cooperation. The parallels between Philadelphia and Frankfurt as cosmopolitan business centers make them ideal partners,” said Dr. Zschocke. “By formalizing their relationship, the two cities are strengthening their ties and demonstrating the forward thinking that is necessary for success.”

Morgan Lewis, a global law firm founded in Philadelphia in 1873, has maintained an office in Frankfurt for more than 25 years. The Philadelphia-Frankfurt agreement is the first “sister city” agreement Philadelphia has entered since 1992.
