Daniel Tehrani, Former SDNY Deputy Chief, Joins Morgan Lewis

March 02, 2020

NEW YORK, March 2, 2020: Daniel Tehrani, who most recently served as Deputy Chief of the Appeals Unit, Criminal Division, at the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and who prosecuted a wide variety of cases, has joined Morgan Lewis as a partner resident in New York. Dan’s practice focuses on government investigations and litigation, and internal investigations.

As a federal prosecutor, Dan investigated and prosecuted matters related to complex financial crimes, including securities fraud, accounting fraud, insider trading, and cybercrimes. He was lead prosecutor in several high-profile jury trials and argued numerous appeals before the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

“Dan’s broad prosecutorial experience further deepens our elite white collar bench, and we are delighted that he has decided to join us,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “His significant first-chair trial and appellate experience will be vital to our clients facing enforcement investigations and actions in New York and across the United States.”

Among the significant cases Dan prosecuted at the US Attorney’s Office are United States v. Block, which resulted in guilty verdicts on multiple counts of securities fraud and other crimes involving the chief financial officer of ARCP, the then-largest publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT), and United States v. Jacoby, an investigation and prosecution that resulted in the former chief financial officer of Osiris Therapeutics, a publicly traded regenerative medicine company, pleading guilty to making false statements to the company’s auditors.

At Morgan Lewis, Dan joins an elite white collar team of veteran trial lawyers with strong defense experience as well as former federal and state prosecutors, including recent additions Matt Miner, a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the US Department of Justice who returned to the firm earlier this year, former US Attorneys Zane Memeger and Kenneth Polite, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act litigators Douglas Baruch and Jennifer Wollenberg. And just last week, Morgan Lewis announced that another partner with significant government experience would soon be joining the firm: Jeff Boujoukos, who most recently served as director of the US Securities & Exchange Commission’s regional office in Philadelphia.

“Dan is an outstanding and skilled courtroom lawyer, and we are delighted that he has joined our white collar team,” said J. Gordon Cooney, Jr., leader of Morgan Lewis’s global litigation practice. “Our clients, particularly those facing US Attorney Office investigations supervised by the Southern District of New York, will benefit from his broad public service background and critical insights.”

During his tenure at the US Attorney’s Office, which he joined in 2010, Dan served as the healthcare fraud coordinator and was later a member of both the Securities & Commodities Fraud Task Force and Complex Frauds & Cybercrime Unit. Before becoming a federal prosecutor, Dan was an associate at a national law firm.
