NEW YORK, September 25, 2020: Morgan Lewis partner Joan Haratani has been named the winner of the “Outstanding Contribution to Furthering the Advancement of Diversity in the Legal Profession Award” by Chambers and Partners as part of its Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards: North America 2020.
Joan was selected by Chambers for her efforts to promote diversity in the legal industry, including through mentoring, advocacy for gender equality, and producing thought leadership in the diversity and inclusion space. Chambers announced her selection during a virtual awards ceremony on September 24.
Joan’s practice spans state and federal law, including the Alien Tort Statute, California’s Unfair Competition Law, pharmaceutical and medical device liability doctrines, and national mortgage foreclosure issues. A co-lead counsel on some of the largest mass tort litigations, Joan defends her clients in class actions, from product liability litigation, to complex licensing agreements, to trade secret indemnity issues. Joan, a longtime leader in the Asian American legal community, was the first woman of color to serve as president of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Earlier this year, she received the International Action Network for Gender Equity & Law’s Amel Zenoune-Zouani Rights & Leadership Award for supporting women's rights, social justice, and gender equality.
