BOSTON, November 18, 2020: Morgan Lewis of counsel Jeff Goldman has been recognized as the Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law’s Outstanding Pro Bono Lawyer for 2020.
Jeff and a team of Morgan Lewis lawyers spent several years pursuing claims against the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, alleging that its practice of placing children with mental health needs in a separate school that employed punitive forms of behavioral control and failed to provide the same level of educational opportunities available in Springfield’s other schools violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Bazelon Center credited Jeff and the team with contributing legal briefs and theories that have been effective in other cases brought to protect the rights of children with mental disabilities.
Jeff was formally honored during the Bazelon Center’s annual awards event, “Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act,” held virtually on November 17.
