SINGAPORE, May 12, 2023: Ishka has recognized a $2 billion widebody fleet renewal program—on which Morgan Lewis Stamford advised Malaysia Aviation Group Berhad, MAB Leasing Limited, and Malaysia Airlines Berhad—as the Best Asian Deal 2022. Ishka’s annual Deal of the Year Awards recognize the best aviation financing transactions of the year.
Entailing an innovative bifurcated risk structure, the deal included the acquisition of 20 Rolls-Royce–powered Airbus 330 aircraft, pre-delivery payment financing of 10 aircraft by Avolon, and the advanced sale and leaseback of those aircraft. In addition, ongoing support services from Airbus and Rolls-Royce for the program were also agreed. As recognized by Ishkha, the transaction was the largest-value leasing deal struck in 2022.
