Partner Sharon Perley Masling is quoted by Law360 in an article about the impact on employers’ diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the wake of state abortion bans and restrictions enacted after the US Supreme Court held there was no constitutional right to abortion. Sharon, who co-leads our firm’s reproductive rights task force, discussed how state legislatures have not acted on threats to go after employers covering the costs of out-of-state employee travel for an abortion.
"There was a real fear at first that employers could be prosecuted for aiding and abetting an abortion if the employer paid for an out-of-state abortion or provided travel and lodging benefits, but to date, we've seen nothing of the kind," Sharon said.
"From an employment perspective, things have turned out better than employers expected a year ago.”
