Partner Asa (Geordie) Herald and associate Micah Jones detail their pro bono representation of former Afghan government minister Hamid Yousafi and his family in this Law360 Access to Justice interview.
Micah and Hamid met while they were both enlisted in their respective homeland’s armed forces in 2015 and collaborated closely to combat corruption within the Afghan government.
“He was serving for his country, I was serving for my country, which builds a platform of mutual respect,” Hamid told Law360.
Geordie and Micah worked with several Morgan Lewis lawyers and a larger community of legislators and diplomats to help evacuate Hamid, his wife, and their five children from Afghanistan following the United States’ 2021 withdrawal from the Taliban-led country and seek asylum in the United States through the Special Immigrant Visa program in July.
"I don't think that anyone else could have been so … committed to a client," he said of the firm.
