A Law360 article reported on the comprehensive executive order recently signed by US President Joseph Biden that sets out a road map for protecting consumers and workers from privacy, discrimination, and other potential harms presented by the widespread deployment of artificial intelligence (AI).
One area that could prove tricky is developing standards for tackling discrimination and bias in housing, employment, health care, and banking, among other vital areas, noted partner Dion Bregman.
“Ensuring fairness and equity in AI systems is a complex and evolving challenge,” he remarked, adding that “the effectiveness of these measures in practice remains to be seen.”
