Partners Stephanie Feingold and Matthew Thurlow were quoted in an InsideEPA article discussing the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ongoing efforts to improve air emissions data collection related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The article highlights recent regulatory developments, the challenges of PFAS incineration, and the potential impacts of improved measurement methods on future disposal and cleanup standards.
Stephanie told the publication that “one of the biggest challenges with incineration as a method for destruction of PFAS is ensuring complete destruction and being able to monitor . . . any emissions from that process to ensure that no PFAS are escaping.”
Matt discussed the role EPA could play in collecting air emissions data on PFAS emitted from facilities, noting that if EPA does not step in to pursue such data, states could potentially do so as state regulators appear to be interested in finding out more about those emissions and their impacts.
