Shutdown and the SEC: Expect Headaches but No Reprieve for Fraudsters, Financial Planning

Partner Fred Block spoke with Financial Planning for an article about how the federal government shutdown will impact activities at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Fred, a former SEC lawyer, noted that the agency will likely prioritize cases that present imminent danger to investors, such as ongoing Ponzi schemes.

“If you are working on that type of matter, you would be definitely coming in to work,” Fred said. “But if it involves people who lost money three years in the past, unless they are getting near the statute of limitations, that may be delayed.”
