Global Supply Chains in Jeopardy: China’s Rare Earth Export Controls Take Effect on 1 December, Lexology Pro
October 15, 2025Partner Mike Huneke spoke with Lexology Pro about China’s recent announcement that it would tighten export controls on rare earths and other items critical to advanced technology manufacturing. Effective December 1, foreign companies will require a license from China to export any Chinese rare earths and must explain their intended use.
“Any licensing requirement imposes additional costs and delay on global trade,” Mike told the publication. He added that the ultimate impact of these new rules on international supply chains will “depend on whether and in what circumstances the license review process will be lengthy and, especially, where it will result in the denial of a license.”
