MVP: Morgan Lewis' Asa ‘Geordie’ Herald, Law360

Partner Geordie Herald spoke with Law360 as part of his recognition among the publication’s 2025 MVPs of the Year for Complex Financial Instruments. In the profile, Geordie discussed why he is a structured transactions lawyer, some of his biggest accomplishments, what motivates him, and what advice he would share with the next generation.

“There’s nothing that I do that I do by myself,” Geordie noted while emphasizing “that he always works with a team of professionals.” He noted that working with clients on their complex transactions is similar to working on a puzzle. “We’re trying to figure out what works, what’s tried and true in the courts, what’s been tested in the markets, and figure out what features of a particular transaction somebody wants to replicate, and then what do they want to bring in from somewhere else? What do they want to do that’s different?”

He further noted that “to this day, I still get a rush out of closing deals.”
