Regulators Target the Fine Print Behind AI Power Plays, PYMNTS

Partners Rishi Satia and Minna Lo Naranjo spoke with PYMNTS about the increasing antitrust scrutiny facing AI partnerships and collaborations as regulators examine how access to compute infrastructure, data, cloud services, and other strategic resources may shape future competition.

The partners discussed how existing antitrust principles are being applied to rapidly evolving AI ecosystems.

“Firms should view the ancillary restraints doctrine as a useful compliance framework, but not as the entire antitrust analysis,” Minna said, adding that the “best design principle is narrow tailoring.”

“In fast-moving AI markets, the challenge is that collaborations rarely stay static,” Rishi said. “Firms need operational discipline that treats the ancillary restraints analysis as a continuing governance exercise, not a one-time legal assessment.”
