PHILADELPHIA, June 11, 2018: Morgan Lewis partner J. Gordon Cooney, Jr., leader of the firm’s global litigation practice, has been named as a 2018 Influencer of Law in the Business Litigation category by The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Influencers of Law awards highlight Philadelphia's most talented and most respected legal professionals in a variety of categories. Winners were selected by a panel of judges based on their accomplishments in their specific practices, business impact of their work, and their civic/community service over the last 18 months.

Mr. Cooney, a veteran litigator with a long history of court success, represents businesses in a variety of disputes, including crisis matters and defending class actions in state and federal court. He has appeared in the courts of more than 35 states and has argued before the US Supreme Court and many federal circuit courts. He represents clients in consumer, product liability, deceptive trade practices, toxic tort, RICO, antitrust, and securities actions, including class actions.

Mr. Cooney also is active in the community. He serves as chair of the regional Board of Directors for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey; is on the Pennsylvania Innocence Project Board; is former chair of the US Lacrosse Foundation Board; and is former chair of both Rosemont School of the Holy Child and the Gesu School, which serves a disadvantaged community in North Philadelphia.
