On October 26, 2021, President Biden nominated current Acting Chair of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Jessica Rosenworcel, to serve as permanent Chairwoman of the agency for another term of office. At the same time, the president nominated former FCC counselor Gigi Sohn to fill the seat of the third commissioner from the Democratic camp. However, the government agency will only have the full five commissioners as the governing body once the US Senate has confirmed the two candidates into office. Due to the tight Democrat majority in the Senate, this confirmation procedure is paved with obstacles and can drag on for months, in the worst case, until the next year.
