Partners Sharon Perley Masling and Saghi Fattahian are quoted in an ABA Journal article discussing how law firms are helping clients shape their health benefits and abortion coverage for employees following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.
Sharon said in the months following the decision, she had “some companies seeking weekly or monthly updates on the evolving situation, some who needed assistance rewriting benefits plans, some who wanted guidance on whether to make a public stance and others preparing for potential litigation.”
Sage said companies should not only check benefit compliance “but to consider some of the potential ‘what ifs,’” e.g., potential civil or criminal liability since some states permit civil lawsuits for helping someone get an abortion, or consider performing or providing the means for an abortion a felony unless the mother’s life is at risk.
