EPA Moves Suggest Trump Will Lighten, but Not Abandon, ‘Forever Chemical’ Regulation, Corporate Counsel
2025年10月22日Partner Matthew Thurlow was quoted by Corporate Counsel in an article about recent moves from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the regulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), so-called “forever chemicals.”
Last month, EPA said it would continue to defend the designation of PFAS chemicals perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) as hazardous substances under the federal Superfund law. However, Matt noted that this does not guarantee that EPA will not use its authority to regulate other PFAS.
“Where it is really murky at the federal level is whether EPA will regulate the thousands of other PFAS chemicals,” Matt said, adding that he did not believe the agency would be “aggressive” on other chemicals based on its actions so far.
