Christie Matthaei

Before joining Morgan Lewis, Christie was a partner at a national IP law firm, where she served as chair of the firm’s recruiting committee.

In law school, Christie was a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and interned for the White House, working in the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

• Represented Amazon in patent litigation involving eight asserted patents relating to client-server networking and remote execution of applications; also represented Amazon in the companion IPR proceedings; successfully obtained a covenant not to sue on all asserted patents after IPR proceedings were substantially complete
• Represented Razor USA LLC in a district court litigation asserting infringement of design and utility patents directed to hoverboards; obtained a favorable settlement for the client
• Represented Amazon in IPR proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) on three patents relating to displaying annotations during the playback of a video; the PTAB invalidated on all challenged claims; on appeal, Christie’s successful oral argument at the Federal Circuit resulted in an affirmance of the PTAB’s decision
• Represented Global Shade in IPR challenging patents on collapsible canopy with central lock; PTAB issued final written decision invalidating all claims asserted in co-pending district court case
• Represented Ranbaxy defendants in a District of New Jersey patent litigation involving sodium oxybate and REMS patents for XYREM®; achieved favorable case-dispositive settlement
