Partner

Joseph B. Sconyers is a seasoned litigator focused on structured financial products. He represents deal parties and other market participants in complex disputes and high-risk matters arising from asset-backed securities and other US and European structured finance transactions. With nearly 20 years of experience, Joe represents and advises financial services businesses across the full lifecycle of transactions, particularly when deals become distressed or contentious.

Joe’s practice centers on litigation and dispute resolution involving RMBS, CMBS, CLOs, student loans, insurance products, and other ABS. He regularly handles matters involving trustee duties, event-of-default disputes, servicing and administration issues, indemnification disputes, and the interpretation and enforcement of transaction documents. He represents financial services businesses in state and federal courts and has extensive experience managing multiparty, document-intensive litigation involving sophisticated financial structures.

In addition to litigation, Joe provides strategic advisory counseling to trustees, securities administrators, and other deal parties to mitigate risk and avoid disputes. He works closely with clients to identify and assess litigation exposure, navigate difficult judgment calls under governing agreements, and develop strategic approaches to transaction administration in distressed or other uncertain circumstances. Clients rely on Joe’s ability to balance rigorous legal analysis with a practical understanding of transaction party roles, market expectations, and litigation risk. He translates complex deal mechanics into clear legal strategies.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Joe was a partner at another global law firm.
