Mika Hori
Mika Hori advises clients on US and global intellectual property strategies with a focus on patent procurement and portfolio development. Leveraging more than 25 years of experience in semiconductor devices, electronics, materials, and electromechanical technologies, Mika drafts and prosecutes patent applications, counsels multinational clients on US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) practice, and coordinates US-Japan prosecution strategies. Mika is fluent in Japanese and has experience with Japan Patent Office procedures.
Mika has experience developing and managing patent portfolios for leading manufacturers in the semiconductor, power device, automotive, and industrial sectors. She has drafted more than 1,000 patent applications, prepared hundreds of Office action responses, and handled a wide range of complex technologies, including image processing, information processing, robotics, encoding/decoding systems, and advanced materials. Mika completed a yearlong US patent practice training program early in her career and has since focused on US prosecution, including examiner interviews, claim strategy, and navigating nuanced requirements for Japanese-origin applications.
Before joining Morgan Lewis, Mika practiced in Japan as a patent engineer and later as a Japanese patent attorney, eventually becoming a partner at one of the country’s largest intellectual property firms. She later returned to the United States to continue her work in US patent practice. Mika holds a master’s degree in materials science, and her technical training covers semiconductor fabrication, metallurgy, electronics, and mechanical systems.
