Dr. Moreshwar (Moru) Vaze, Ph.D. focuses his practice on patent counseling, procurement, and licensing in the life sciences sector for a wide variety of clients, including emerging life sciences companies, research foundations, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Moru creates and develops US and international intellectual property rights that are aligned with client business objectives. His decade-long experience as a scientist in life sciences and working with pharmaceutical companies helps him serve his clients well because of his understanding of their culture.
Moru practices in the area of intellectual property law with emphasis on IP counseling, patent prosecution and litigation. He routinely assists clients in patent portfolio development and management, due diligence (e.g. FTO analyses, opinion work, and IP diligence in support of M&A transactions). He also has experience in patent/trade secret litigation. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Moru worked in two other large law firms.
For nearly a decade, Moru worked as a scientist in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry in small molecule oncology drug discovery and RNAi biologic drug discovery. He has submitted several patent applications, some of which were granted US or European patents. In addition to a Ph.D. in biochemistry, he has performed postdoctoral research in genetics and molecular biology at Brandeis University. Moru has co-authored over a dozen publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the Molecular Cell, Nature, Genes & Development, The EMBO Journal, Current Biology, Molecular Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Nucleic Acids Research.
