In recent years, oil and gas companies, including many in the shale gas industry, have faced increased scrutiny from the U.S. Departments of Labor (DOL) and Homeland Security (DHS).

DOL has made attempts to strictly enforce wage and hour laws regarding the misclassification of employees and the underpayment of wages, and DHS has launched investigations into worksite immigration compliance and conducted site visits to confirm the lawful employment of foreign national workers.
