Back to Basics – A guide to contracts and policies in the workplace

Thursday, March 26, 2020
02:00 PM - 03:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time

Please join us for a one-hour webinar where we will discuss issues surrounding employment contracts and policies.

The employment contract regulates the key aspects of the relationship between an employer and its employees and is, in many cases, the most important document that an employer will give to its staff. Employment policies supplement the contract by helping to reinforce and clarify the standards expected of employees and assisting employers with managing staff more effectively. Together, well-written contracts and company policies can protect an employer in many ways, including by safeguarding business interests and reducing the risk of workplace disputes and legal claims.

With employment law constantly changing, employment contracts and policies must keep pace. Our session will examine the key issues associated with employment contracts and policies and help you ensure that your key employment documents are up to date, are legally compliant, and provide as much protection for the business as possible.

Topics will include:

  • Section 1 ERA and the Good Work Plan changes taking effect 6 April 2020
  • Key terms in employment contracts
  • Managing risks associated with terminating employment contracts, including post-termination restrictions and garden leave
  • Introducing changes to terms and conditions
  • Data privacy provisions and documents
  • Key workplace policies, including those required by law, those that help avoid liability, and those that may be useful to deal with specific incidents such as a viral outbreak
  • Leave entitlements, including the introduction of bereavement leave
