Startups Toolkit: Why Investors Want More Than Patents, Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review

Consultant Paul Ranson and partners Hiroshi Sheraton and Tim Powell spoke to Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review to share regulatory and intellectual property–related tips for startups to consider that could boost their attractiveness to investors.

“The UK and EU data privacy regime requires compliance with data protection principles, registration and accountability to data subjects backed by significant sanctions in the case of breach”, said Paul.

Hiroshi told the publication, “Regulatory timelines and reporting requirements can determine when and what information is in the public domain which must align with the appropriate patent filing strategy and the need to have sufficient technical support at the time of filing”.

Tim added that, often, regulatory and IP strategies are handled in “silos”, noting that “common oversight of both functions is important to develop coordinated approaches”.
