Firm Chair Jami McKeon is one of nearly 50 law firm leaders that have backed New York’s proposed clean slate legislation in a recent memo covered by Law360. The legislation would automatically seal certain convictions, which the memo notes is beneficial to both New Yorkers and the state’s economy, as criminal records create employment barriers and disproportionately impact Black and Latino individuals.
"Too many New Yorkers are denied access to housing and employment because of a prior conviction, leaving them unable to work and provide for themselves and their families long after their sentence is served,” Ms. McKeon told Law360. "All New Yorkers deserve to live full lives as thriving members of their communities.”
