Partner Michael Banks led a team, featuring associates Lynne Powers and Brent Hackett, recognized in a The Am Law Litigation Daily article for its efforts to secure the release of Ricky Warner—who served 35 years in Louisiana’s Angola State Penitentiary before his murder conviction was vacated on November 17.

The case centered on a 1985 shooting following an argument over a game of dice on the streets of New Orleans. Lacking any physical evidence tying Warner to the shooting, prosecutors relied heavily on a key witness who identified him.

Files prosecutors recently handed over to the team revealed that the witness initially was unable to identify the shooter when interviewed by the police—a fact concealed from Warner’s defense lawyers for decades.
