PHILADELPHIA, March 5, 2024: The Philadelphia Business Journal selected antitrust partner Zachary (Zak) Johns as one of the publication’s 40 Under 40 for 2024. The annual recognition, drawn from a pool of more than 315 nominations, recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in their careers and among their peers and have made a positive impact on the Greater Philadelphia area.
Zak represents clients in high-stakes complex commercial matters with a focus on civil and criminal antitrust and class action litigation. His recent courtroom successes have included co-leading a team that won a bid to arbitrate antitrust claims brought by a set of consumers against a sports apparel company client and co-defendants, a major sports league, the league’s merchandizing and licensing arm, and the league’s teams; fending off a high-stakes preliminary injunction bid for alleged violations of the antitrust laws directed to a classical arts establishment; and prevailing on summary judgment in a long-running False Claims Act litigation against a pharmaceutical company related to one of its vaccines.
Beyond his private practice, Zak maintains an active pro bono practice, through which he volunteers for HIAS in Philadelphia, a nonprofit immigration aiding organization that represents asylum applicants and individuals seeking citizenship, and represents various artists through Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and veterans through the National Veterans Legal Services Program. Zak also serves as a trustee for the PYO Music Institute, the region’s premier organization for youth classical music education.
