August 07, 2026Partner Dion Bregman was quoted by Managing IP in an article about proposed US legislation that would restrict certain foreign-affiliated entities from obtaining or enforcing US patents and require disclosures of ties to foreign adversaries in patent applications.
Dion noted that companies should begin assessing how the proposals could affect existing intellectual property arrangements and cross-border relationships.
“Clients should review patent ownership chains, joint-development arrangements, prosecution control, assignment rights, and contractual protections if a party is later designated,” Dion said. “For companies working across borders, particularly with China, patent strategy can no longer be separated from national-security compliance.”
