The Race for the Next Big Weight-Loss Drug Is On—and China Wants in, The Wall Street Journal

Partner Todd Liao spoke with The Wall Street Journal about the rapid growth of China’s biotechnology sector and the surge in licensing deals for weight-loss and other drugs developed by Chinese companies.
Todd noted that deal activity has increased substantially in recent years as global pharmaceutical companies look to China for promising treatments. “The growth has been remarkable,” he said. “Deal volume has gone from essentially negligible prior to 2020 to well over $100 billion . . . with GLP-1 and obesity among the hottest areas within that.”
