LONDON, June 24, 2020: Morgan Lewis’s intellectual property services will grow significantly in London with the arrival on July 1 of partner Nick Bolter, who focuses on trademarks and design. Nick will join with a team of four associates, a paralegal, and three trademark professional staff from another global law firm, where he led the trademark, copyright, and advertising practice.

Nick has broad IP experience and is both UK and EU qualified. His practice focuses on the selection, prosecution, protection, and enforcement of trademarks, brands, and designs in the United Kingdom and across Europe. Nick’s clients include some of the world’s best-known brands in retail, luxury, and apparel, as well as online retailers and technology and automotive companies.

“The arrival of Nick and his team will be an important part of the strategic growth of our global intellectual property capabilities in the United States, Russia, China, and Japan,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “The exceptional caliber of these lawyers represents an exciting development for our firm and for our clients, particularly retail and luxury brands companies.”

Nick is recommended in World Trademark Review’s WTR1000 2020 edition as “one of the top trademark professionals in the world” with clients describing him as “extremely energetic and client focused, and top companies trust him unequivocally—and with good reason.”

“Nick and his team represent a significant expansion of our IP capabilities in the United Kingdom and Europe,” said Eric Kraeutler, the leader of Morgan Lewis’s global intellectual property practice. “The team will work closely with our existing talent in the United States and Moscow, adding critical depth to our already global trademark and branding practice.”

With more than 200 lawyers and other professionals, Morgan Lewis has one of the largest intellectual property practices of any full-service law firm in the world. The practice has received significant recognition in recent years. In 2019 alone, Morgan Lewis’s IP practice was named Litigation Department of the Year by The American Lawyer, Practice Group of the Year by Law360, and an IP Litigation Powerhouse by BTI Litigation Outlook.

Morgan Lewis has conducted a major expansion of its market-leading intellectual property practice during the past several years by hiring a nine-partner full-service patent prosecution and litigation team resident in Orange County; adding seven additional partners to its life sciences- and technology-focused litigation teams in Chicago, Northern California, and Washington, DC; and building a litigation-focused team in Shanghai, led by Shaobin Zhu, who practices in Shanghai and Silicon Valley, focusing on cross-border intellectual property disputes. Morgan Lewis’s IP expansion now continues into Europe.

“Nick and his team’s arrival is an exciting development for our proposition for clients both in London and internationally,” said Frances Murphy, managing partner of Morgan Lewis’s London office. “This IP team’s strong skillset is complementary to that of the wider team here, working on data protection issues and technology transactions.”
