In an article for California Real Property Journal, partner Robin Nunn and associate Mark Feller examine California’s “board diversity mandate,” a first-of-its-kind legislation that dictates public corporations within the state must have one to three directors from underrepresented communities by 2023.
“The law is an important tool to make boardrooms look more like the communities they serve,” Robin and Mark explain, sharing that the legislation seeks to remedy historical injustices, biases, and stereotypes that can often lead to predominately White, male boards. “Companies are on notice and may need to reevaluate or begin their efforts to increase diversity to comply,” they write.
