What’s Changing in the M&A Market for Fintechs, Revue Banque

Partner Alexandre Omaggio co-authored an article in Revue Banque that reviews mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in the fintech sector over the last 10 years and analyzes evolving market dynamics.

The article draws on the 2025 M&A report produced by L’Observatoire de la Fintech in collaboration with Morgan Lewis and highlights sustained deal momentum despite tighter funding conditions. It points out that there have been more than 50 M&A transactions per year since 2022, with fintechs accounting for 43% of buyers.

The article explains that as fundraising slows and the sector matures, consolidation is increasingly driven by the need for scale, profitability, and technology acquisition, with growing international participation and the potential emergence of pan-European players.
