Singapore’s First Published ECT Decisions Provide Guidance on Employment Claims, Human Resources Director

Partner Wendy Tan and senior associate Kelley Wong co-authored an article for Human Resources Director examining the first five published decisions from Singapore’s Employment Claims Tribunals (ECT), which provide early guidance on a range of employment disputes.

The authors analyzed key takeaways for employers concerning wrongful dismissal, compensation, employment records, and retirement and reemployment obligations. They noted that the decisions underscore the importance of precise contractual drafting, proper recordkeeping, documented decision-making, and consistent employment practices, while cautioning that the first-instance decisions are persuasive guidance rather than binding precedent.
