Jacob L. Peterson
Jacob Peterson represents clients in intellectual property (IP) disputes and provides strategic counsel on IP protection and enforcement. His practice focuses on patent matters before federal courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the US International Trade Commission. He advises clients across diverse industries, including consumer products, medical devices, and robotics. With a strong technical and business background, Jacob helps clients integrate patents as a key component of their business strategy.
Before joining Morgan Lewis, Jacob was a partner at a national IP law firm.
- Successfully defended the validity of patents owned by a medical device company before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, allowing the company to pursue a high-value infringement action in federal district court
- Developed and executed strategies for a consumer eyewear company to challenge the validity of patents asserted against it at the US International Trade Commission, leading to a favorable settlement
- Led high-stakes US patent prosecution strategies for a robotics company, helping secure a $250+ million litigation settlement in the company’s favor
- Built and scaled a US patent portfolio for a data management software company from zero to 60+ patents, supporting a valuation exceeding $1 billion
