Chris Archer represents clients in the structuring and negotiation of outsourcing, strategic technology, and commercial transactions. He regularly advises clients in connection with global outsourcing deals that span a wide range of business processes, including information technology, finance and accounting, commercial operations, procurement, and facilities management. A key focus of his practice is supporting clients with major digital transformation and modernization activities intended to provide better, more efficient operations, including platform transformation and the introduction of new technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud services.
Chris helps clients understand the complexities of structuring and documenting transformation initiatives as part of outsourcing transactions, such as managing scope and timelines, as well as balancing the business drive to quickly move forward with the need to negotiate contracts that incentivize on-time, on-budget delivery of all requirements. He collaborates with clients and their consultants to determine how best to structure a proposed outsourcing transaction, including transactions for onshore, offshore, managed, and co-sourced solutions.
Chris has worked on some of the largest and most complex outsourcing transactions in the market and is often involved in the early phases of the outsourcing process, helping clients navigate the process from the RFP phase through contract negotiations. His practice acts for both buyers and suppliers of services and technology, giving him a strategic perspective of the concerns on both sides of the transaction table. This insight brings balanced and effective solutions to clients, including in key areas that can lead to negotiation delays and increased transaction costs.
In addition to his outsourcing practice, Chris supports clients in all aspects of strategic technology and commercial transactions, enabling them to effectively leverage technology and digital solutions to operate, modernize, and grow their businesses. As the cloud, automation, AI, as-a-service (XaaS) products, blockchain, digital assets, and the metaverse create opportunities for companies around the globe, Chris is at the forefront—providing thought leadership and innovative contracting structures to implement and manage new technologies, protect and secure valuable assets, provide flexibility and scalability, facilitate compliance, and mitigate risk.
He has worked on some of the largest and most complex cloud modernization projects to date, negotiating with hyper-scalers and startups and offering practical, market-based support to clients engaging or re-solutioning their cloud journey.
Chris is a thought leader in the outsourcing and technology transactions market, speaking regularly at events and conferences, as well as a contributor to Tech & Sourcing @ Morgan Lewis, the firm’s technology, outsourcing, and commercial transactions blog.
